MOST POPULAR QUESTIONS ABOUT THE g-LICENSE COURSE

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Class “G” license is the state-issued armed security officer license in Florida. It authorizes licensed security officers to carry a firearm while on duty, provided they complete the required training and certification.

What are the requirements to apply for the G License?

To apply for the Class “G” license, you must:

  • Already hold a valid Class “D” Unarmed Security License

  • Be at least 21 years old

  • Be a U.S. citizen or legal resident

  • Pass a criminal background check and fingerprinting

  • Complete the state-approved 28-hour firearms training course

Is the DVPSTA G License course fully online?

The course is hybrid. Students complete the academic portion online at their own pace (20 hours), then attend the mandatory in-person firearms qualification (8 hours) session with a state-certified instructor to demonstrate safe handling and marksmanship.

How long is the G License course?

Florida requires 28 hours of training. With DVPSTA, the online portion can be completed at your own pace, followed by the scheduled in-person firearms training and qualification.

How much does the G License course cost?

At DVPSTA, the G License course is $255. Students can also save by purchasing the D + G License Bundle, which provides both courses at a discounted rate.

How do I apply for the license after completing training?

After completing the DVPSTA course, you will receive proof of training to submit to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) along with your application, fingerprints, and fees. DVPSTA will guide you through the application process.

What if I don’t live near the range or Darwin (our K License Instructor)?

You can still complete the course! After finishing the online portion, you have two options for the in-person firearms qualification:

  1. Train directly with Darwin at the preferred location in South Florida, or

  2. Find your own local K License Instructor in Florida, and we will coordinate with them to ensure your training and paperwork meet state requirements.

This flexibility makes it easier for students across the state to complete their G License without being limited by location. On a case-by-case basis, Darwin may be able to travel (1-2 hour drive) to your nearest location if it a group training. If this is your case, please reach out to our team at giu@dvpsta.com

Can I still take this course if I live outside of Florida?

Yes. Students from outside Florida may enroll and complete the online portion. However, the in-person firearms qualification must be completed in Florida with a licensed K instructor to meet state requirements. You will need to travel for the qualification day.

IN-PERSON FIREARMS RANGE DATES WILL BE CONDUCTED EVERY 2ND AND 4TH WEEKEND OF THE MONTH
